Craftsman, defined as the men and women who built America. A craft can be found in many forms - wine, metal, wood, art, and food. Regardless of the skill, the Craftsman can be traced to the culture and growth of our country.
In 1933, an original Craftsman, Nikola Rasic, brought his vision and skills to Los Angeles and opened Nick’s Café on Sunset Blvd. The concept was simple and was truly a hand-crafted labor of food, hospitality and service provided to the people of Southern California. The next generation of Craftsman opened just down the street in 1958 and Nikola’s became known as a Southern California landmark for the next 30 years. Brothers Walt, Pete, and Nick worked from behind the counter while Mama cooked up the daily specials and greeted guests and regulars as they walked through the back kitchen door.
Eighty years after the original Craftsman, the next generation welcomes you in Placentia with the same spirit of hospitality and service pursued by Nikola in 1933. 2018 marks the opening our second local Craftsman restaurant in Anaheim Hills with the same commitment to hospitality and community inspired by our history. Fine food and drink accompanied with a comfortable place that you can call home. Enjoy with family, friends and neighbors and be sure to find your seat at our family table.
Joe & Jenner Rasic
Joe and Jenner Rasic, the owners of Craftsman restaurants, have been residents in Orange County since 1992. They are both thrilled to give back to the community they love.
As a kid, Joe could always be found in the kitchen, both at his dad's restaurant and at home. Food is always best when shared with family and friends and, coming from a large family, Joe learned early on how to provide for large groups. Joe was inspired by those parties and created the Craftsman concept that friends and family would love.
Jenner has taught at Golden Elementary in Placentia for the past 22 years. With over 600 kids experiencing her classroom, she is often recognized around town. When not continuing her work with PYLUSD, Jenner will be working the dining room, visiting with students and families.
Ryan & Amber Matas
Ryan was born and raised in Orange County with over 25 years experience in full-service restaurants. Starting in the industry as a prep cook and working his way up through the ranks of various leadership positions, Ryan has a true passion for hospitality.
Ryan has had the pleasure of knowing Joe for over 15 years as both a coworker and friend. Since joining the industry, Ryan’s dream was to have ownership in a concept that he truly believes in. Becoming a part of the Craftsman family brought Ryan and his family back to Orange County and is allowing him to fulfill that dream.
One of his greatest joys away from the restaurant is spending time with family and friends. Married to his high school sweetheart and father to two amazing kids, you will typically find them entertaining large groups at home.
Since graduating from college in 1992, we have lived in the Placentia-Yorba Linda community. As active supporters of the school district, we appreciate the exceptional activities and programs PYLUSD has provided for our children. When we opened Craftsman, we decided to seize the opportunity to do more for the schools and our community. Since our inception, we have kept local education as the primary recipient of our goodwill. We have also worked closely with the Rotary Club of Placentia, the Placentia Women’s Roundtable, and the Placentia Library Friends Foundation all with the purpose of continuing to make our community a better place. We are looking forward to creating the same supportive generosity with our new neighbors in Anaheim Hills with our second restaurant, Craftsman Pizza • Bar • Grill.
We have supported both local and global causes such as CHOC, the American Cancer Society, the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, Coaches vs. Cancer, and Teed Up for the Troops. It is with this commitment to service that we will continue to operate, and we look forward to supporting our partners in the community for many years to come.
